JUNE 3, 2018

On Monday we met with our architects and contractor to receive an update on the projected building costs. As you may recall, the original submission was outside of our targeted cost range and we asked them to provide options to the current proposal to allow us to remain within budget.

Several adjustments and design tweaks were made to the original proposal, but all savings generated in this process were more than offset by the tariffs on steel that are now in place in the market.

After a significant discussion with both the architect and contractor, esthetic and design changes were offered that will allow us to achieve our original cost target. While these changes will make the exterior of the building look slightly different, there will be limited programming impact from the original design.

Since this will be different from our original church approved design proposal, the Book of Discipline requires another Church Conference to approve the design change, after which it will go before our District Board of Church Location and Building (District Trustees) for final approval. Our District Superintendent’s schedule allows for the Church Conference meeting to be on Monday, July 30, at 6:00 PM and we hope all church members can attend in the Family Life Center.  All professing members of this local church have a vote.

We apologize for the continued delays but we are hopeful we are quickly approaching the finish line in this process. We thank you all for the continued prayers during this process and ask that you remember our church, architects, and contractor as they are working extremely hard to help us with this important step in our church’s future.
